A Christmas Carol

The Christ-child lay on Mary’s lap,
His hair was like a light.
(O weary, weary were the world,
But here is all aright.)

The Christ-child lay on Mary’s breast,
His hair was like a star.
(O stern and cunning are the kings,
But here the true hearts are.)

The Christ-child lay on Mary’s heart,
His hair was like a fire.
(O weary, weary is the world,
But here the world’s desire.)

The Christ-child stood at Mary’s knee,
His hair was like a crown.
And all the flowers looked up at Him,
And all the stars looked down.

Una Canzone di Natale

Il Cristo-bambino giaceva in grembo a Maria,
i suoi capelli erano come luce.
(Oh stanco, stanco era il mondo,
ma qui tutto è come dev’essere.)

Il Cristo-bambino giaceva sul seno di Maria,
i suoi capelli erano come una stella.
(Oh severi e scaltri sono i re,
ma qui stanno i cuori veri.)

Il Cristo-bambino giaceva sul cuore di Maria,
i suoi capelli erano come fuoco.
(Oh stanco, stanco è il mondo,
ma qui è il desiderio del mondo.)

Il Cristo-bambino stava al ginocchio di Maria,
i suoi capelli erano come una corona.
E tutti i fiori guardavano in alto verso di Lui,
e tutte le stelle guardavano in basso.
