Abstract
Professor Challenger’s daughter Enid and journalist Edward Malone investigate London’s Spiritualist churches and mediums, initially as sceptical reporters. Challenger himself, still grieving his wife, is gradually confronted with evidence that shakes his rigid materialism, as Doyle uses the novel to argue for the truth of Spiritualism.
