Abstract

A mock-didactic ABC in comic verse, each letter yoked to an absurd little tale and an ironic ‘Moral’ that parodies the improving alphabet-books for children. Belloc uses the schoolroom form to skewer priggish virtue and pompous instruction, deriving deliberately useless or perverse lessons from bears, cobras, and prehistoric beasts.
