Abstract
Belloc’s critical preface to a selection of J. A. Froude’s essays, weighing Froude’s combative Victorian prose, its dogmatic rationalism, and its virtues of courage, universality and synthesis. Belloc argues that Froude, denying the Faith, nonetheless stood perpetually on the borderland of the Catholic Church.
