Abstract
Belloc’s life of the Queen of France, cast as a tragedy of destiny: while the great men around her recreated the state by will, she alone suffered a fixed doom. Opening from the Diplomatic Revolution that betrothed Austria to France, it traces her marriage, her fall, and her death against the machinery of the Revolution.
