Abstract

John Girdlestone and his brutal son Ezra run a lucrative African trading firm and treat every act, including charity, as a calculated investment. Their cynical pursuit of a dying friend’s fortune for his orphaned daughter sets in motion a chain of financial schemes, deception, and eventually an unforeseen murder.
