Abstract
A historical novel opening in Bordeaux in August 1792, following young Georges Boutroux, nephew of a prosperous wine merchant, as private family quarrels give way to the tumult of the Revolution. Belloc sets an ironic, well-bred domestic comedy against the gathering violence of the Republic.
