Abstract
A comic satirical novel in which an English squire’s crippled son, a preternaturally exact copyist, becomes entangled with a bohemian Paris artist and a forged ‘masterpiece’, driving a farce of art, publicity and money. The narrative carries antisemitic caricature in its depiction of landlords and financiers.
