Abstract
John Fothergill West’s family settles near a Wigtownshire manor let to General Heatherstone, an Anglo-Indian officer barricaded in dread of a supernatural vengeance stemming from a Buddhist mystic’s curse laid on him during the Afghan campaigns decades earlier. The mystery builds toward the arrival of three Eastern avengers who claim the debt owed for a long-ago betrayal.
