Abstract
Mary Morstan consults Holmes about her missing father and a mysterious annual gift of pearls, leading Holmes and Watson into a case rooted in a stolen Agra treasure, a pact of four convicts from the Andaman Islands, and a revenge-driven wooden-legged fugitive with a murderous pygmy accomplice. The novel introduces Holmes’s cocaine habit and Watson’s romance with Mary Morstan.
